‘’Giving a bride away is sacred’’, says Surat-based business tycoon Mahesh Savani. Professionally, his interest lies in real estate and diamond trade. After one of his own employees died just before 12 days he could marry off his daughter, Savani started this charitable campaign in 2008 as a foster father. Women who cannot finance their nuptials and are fatherless, Savani only demands a death certificate and then takes full responsibility for the wedding. From bride’s clothes, utensils, gold jewellery, caterers to their maternity phase, he acts as a messiah in their lives.
To this day this 44-year-old has organized more than 450 weddings and has spent over rupees 400,000 on each ceremony.
Happy with his responsibilities and performing kanyadaan, Savani uses his school P. P. Savani International’s playground as the venue for mass weddings. Recently, more than 100 weddings took place at his school in Surat.
Irrespective of these girl’s caste and religion, Savani is setting a new example every time he plays a father’s role. This kind of humanity and conviction is commendable and we wish nothing but the best to his genuine act of kindness.
