A framed dream every girl has for her wedding day; that the location would be something out of a fairytale, music with just the right backdrop and the happy couple to take over everything else. But being content is almost unrealistic, thanks to the larger-than-life portrayal of weddings, especially in movies. Women are too hard on themselves, as they try to aspire to get the YRF bride look and thus, leaves the plus-size ones in a tough spot.
Fret not! As we have jotted down the golden rules every plus-size bride-to-be should note to rule her wedding day.
1. CHOOSE A STYLE THAT FLATTERS YOUR BODY
This would be a deciding factor of what you’d wear for your special day- a lehenga, saree, or salwar-kameez. Your body type also determines the suitable fit for you - a thinned down parallel or something with graceful silhouettes. Your choice for the depth of neck and back of the blouse, for instance, must also depend on your shape. In spite of your plus size if you have a toned back, then you can very well pull off backless, which would get all the right attention in all the right places.
2. QUIT LIMITING TO CONVENTIONAL BRIDAL COLOURS
Now, now! We’re not suggesting you go full VIBGYOR on your D-Day, but there is no harm in working on multiple colours, especially those that flatter your body. Those whose torso is heavier than the bottom, they must go for a darker shade for the blouse and a somewhat lighter combination for the lehenga and vice-versa. Abra-Ka-Dabra much? The trick here is to know what colour gives your body a perfectly shaped illusion.

3. CHOICE OF FABRIC IS CRUCIAL
Thick and extremely heavy fabrics are generally not advised for a plus size, and neither are the thin and see-through ones. A breed of silk and a lighter fabric could give them the desired silhouette. Velvet, similarly, though might look good in the latest Ritu Kumar collection, would not be your best companion for the day. The use of stones and crystals is also very tricky. Avoid heavy embellishments or Swarovski. Remember, you don’t want to resemble a disco ball.
4. BAD DESIGN CAN LEAD TO A HORRENDOUS LANDING
There are numerous tricks on how to work around designs and embroidery to customise your attire according to your needs. For instance, short-height brides shouldn’t opt for extremely broad borders in the bottom, as it would cut down their height even further and make them appear even broader. An appropriate 6-inch (or less) border shall do the exact opposite and add length to your look. Also, for brides with a broad torso, you must not go for small prints spread on the whole cloth as that can make your waistline appear vast and never-ending. Medium-sized prints are ideal for such a shape.

5. KNOW YOUR MAKEUP AND HAIRDO HACKS
Since we are talking about magic, the wonders of makeup are inevitable. The right shades of make-up clubbed with the very necessary contouring can give your face the perfect shape. Use a foundation that is two shades darker for your T-area, as it will give you a sleek nose and can bestow you with a sharper and a much-pronounced jaw line. So, save the ever-so-white base with loud lip colours for other occasions (read – Halloween). You must also be very vigilant when it comes to your hairstyle.Regular salon hairstylists often leave you with a limited number of bridal hairstyles, the regular bun being the most common. It is possible that the clichéd hairstyles may not flatter your face, therefore, you must look for the ones that do.
6. FROM FAT TO FABULOUS WITH RIGHT DIET AND EXERCISE
Eat well and work out! Even if it’s just a few weeks left for your wedding, don’t lose hope. A healthy diet and some exercise will kerb the excess bloating and will give you a perfectly toned body. Don’t underestimate the power of fortnight classes of Zumba and cardio. Sleep well and pamper yourself with anti-cellulite massages.
Don’t succumb to the unrealistic standards set by the photo-shopped images and keep that bridal blush intact.
