Engagement parties are usually held 2-4 months after the announcement, so you do get enough amount of time to execute if it’s planned well. Most importantly, engagement parties are where both the families meet each other and have fun, so unwind, dance your heart out, laugh and be merry.
Here are a few things to be kept in mind while planning your party. Read on!

1. Fix up your Guest List

Your guest list depends on the size of the party you plan to host. If it’s a small, intimate gathering then you could stick to just the families and a few close friends unless you want to have a large, fancy party for your engagement. Whatever the size may be, the guest list must be fixed so that there are no surprises for anyone. The invitations must be sent at least a month in advance.

2. Agree On a Host

Generally, it’s the bride’s side of the family that throws the engagement party, but sometimes the groom’s family may like to share the celebrations too. Make sure you decide beforehand who’ll be hosting the party or if you’d like to co-host it.

3. Pick a Venue

The venue determines the formality of the place. You could either throw the party as an informal barbeque or at a swanky restaurant. Your venue must be booked at least a month in advance. Once the venue is decided, make sure to check that everything is in order and according to your liking, a week to 3 days before the party.

4. Decide your Menu

You should opt for a menu that would please the majority of your guests. If you’re planning to have alcohol in the party, ensure that you have plenty of finger foods and quick bites to munch on. Keep in mind if your guests have diabetes/allergies or are vegan or have special needs for their food. You could have food stalls serving different kinds of food so that people of different taste enjoy their meal.

If you want, have a few fun activities instead of the usual games of Charades and Taboo, quiz each other’s families and friends, that way everyone gets to know each other better and it’s a great way to break the ice! You could also add a little presentation for your guests to watch. Take lots of photographs to preserve your cherished memories.
