An Indian wedding is not limited to just one night of celebrations. It stretches to almost a week long festivity which includes the sangeet, cocktail, mehendi, haldi, wedding and reception. Which means the bride does not only have to focus on finding a perfect bridal lehenga but has to pay equal attention to her other outfits. After all, she is the show stopper of every event!

Vogue Magazine, India recently organized a Wedding Show in New Delhi where more than 50 wedding experts of the country came together to guide, assist and style the brides and grooms-to-be. These experts included designers, décor specialists, jewelry masters and makeup and beauty professionals. Not only this, a few of these experts also conducted master classes for bridal styling and much more.

Taking cues from a master class which talked about bridal styling, here are a couple of tips and ideas which suggest the right way for the bride to dress up for every wedding function, primarily the ones which happen before the D-day.

A cocktail function demands the bride to look sophisticated and minimal. According to the master class, gowns complement this function the best. Flared or flowy, gowns look classy and are called cocktail gowns for a reason.

The class suggested that the brides should dress up differently and comparatively simple as compared to their wedding function. Too much embellishment replicates the bridal look killing the excitement and charm of seeing you dressed up as a bride.

What should you wear?

Choose deeper tones as they complement Indian skins pretty well. Marsala red and olive green are good options, such as this Shantanu and Nikhil gown.

If you are that breezy summer bride, pastels decorated with ruffles or floral embroidery can also make you stand out.

Sangeet is all about dance, drama, glitz and glamor and wearing a single color for this function can make you look dull.

What should you wear?

According to Vogue Master Class, don’t shy away from infusing color in your outfits. If not multiple, you could go with a bright colored lehenga such as this Rani Pink lehenga by Anita Dongre.

Also, this Sabyasachi jacket style outfit can accentuate your look as the bright embroidery on a dark base is really standing out making you the bride-in-vogue.

Usually, a mehendi function is organized in broad daylight and from the décor to the bride; everything should look vibrant and lively.

The expert clearly said a no to deeper tones and heavy embellishments as they can prove to be an eye-sore.

What should you wear?

Manish Arora specializes in color co-ordination and this lehenga here is the specimen. Wearing something which is embroidered or has a light gotta-patti work can fetch you tonnes of brownie points when you get your hands covered in that beautiful henna.

So, it's your D-day and we know you’re nervous, we know there are heaps of options in your mind but one color which you should get over now is ‘red!’

Metallics are the new red and opting for other bright colors can also not fail to impress.

What should you wear?

Gold on gold is the latest rage and it looks absolutely stunning. Reflecting a royal finish, this Jade by Monica and Karishma lehenga is a safe choice as it is subtle yet glamorous.

Tarun Tahiliani collection at the Vogue Wedding Show was a lot of golds. So if you are the unconventional bride who can ditch the mainstream lehenga choli, this indo-western saree is your best bet.

Falguni Peacock personally recommended this gown which looks tailor-made for a princess.

But if gold on gold is not your style, this Anita Dongre orange lehenga is what favors you on as your wedding masterpiece. The way this lehenga would complement dusky complexions makes it one of our favourite pieces.

With these styling tips handy, we are sure dressing up for every function will be effortless yet chic!
